VisitScotland has welcomed the launch of a direct seasonal service between Hanover and Glasgow Airport.

The new route, returning airline Eurowings to Glasgow for the first time since 2019, will operate three times per week from 29 June to 23 August 2026, offering enhanced access for travellers from northern Germany.

The connection will be Scotland’s only direct air link with the historic city of Hanover, opening opportunities for leisure, business, and event‑driven travel across both Germany and Scotland.

The launch comes at a moment of increased German interest in Scotland, following the UEFA EURO 2024. With interest in Scotland still strong, the Hanover - Glasgow service creates a timely opportunity for Scotland to continue strengthening its presence in one of its most strategically important international markets.

"German visitors make up our single largest European market for inbound tourism to Scotland. They are highly valued as long staying visitors, who love to explore and who spread their spend from the cities to the furthest flung corners of Scotland.

As a market of many major cities, we are delighted to see Eurowings opening up Hannover as an important new gateway to Glasgow and wider Scotland for visitors from the north of Germany.

The German people took Scotland to their hearts during the Euros in 2024 and interest in travel to Scotland soared. We hope that news of this new route will stimulate a similar reaction among the people of Hanover and the north of Germany.”

Denise Hill, VisitScotland’s Head of Business Development and Intermediary Marketing

“We’re thrilled to welcome Eurowings back to Glasgow Airport with this exciting new service to Hanover. Germany is an important market for both inbound and outbound travel, and this route provides even greater choice for our passengers planning city breaks, cultural trips or onward travel across northern Germany.

The addition of Eurowings further strengthens our valued relationship with the Lufthansa Group and underscores our commitment to enhancing connectivity for our passengers and the region.”
