It's Winner's Wednesday (29 January) and this week we’re celebrating the regional winners in the Most Hospitable B&B/ Guest House and Best Hotel categories of the Scottish Thistle Awards.
Accommodation is a vital part of the visitor journey – hotels, B&Bs and guest houses are key to creating many visitors’ lasting impressions of Scotland and our world-famous Scottish hospitality.
B&Bs and guest houses are at the front line of Scotland’s hospitality reputation and have the ability to provide a personal and memorable experience for every guest. The Most Hospitable B&B/ Guest House award at the Scottish Thistle Awards, sponsored by Abbey UK, celebrates businesses going the extra mile to demonstrate heart-warming levels of customer service to every guest who steps through the door.
Sponsored by Fishers, the Best Hotel award recognises hotels that strive to give their customer the most hospitable and comfortable experience while they enjoy their stay in Scotland.
At the West Regional Final, Ashfield House Boutique B&B in Arrochar, Argyll & Bute, was crowned Most Hospitable B&B/ Guest House, while Auchrannie Resort on the Isle of Arran received the award for Best Hotel Experience.
Ashfield House Boutique B&B is situated in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, just 45 minutes from Glasgow airport. With sweeping views over Loch Long and the “Arrochar Alps”, it is more boutique hotel than B&B, offering Georgian grandeur and modern luxuries. Upon arrival guests are greeted with the warm southern hospitality owner Cristina is noted for and instantly made to feel they are magically transported to the romance and splendour that is the Scottish Highlands.
I still cannot believe that out of the hundreds of amazing B&B’s in this category, I am really standing here accepting this year’s award! All I can say is I am honoured to be included in this prestigious group; love my work and thank you, VisitScotland!!!
Auchrannie Resort was founded 31 years ago as a 12-bedroom hotel and has since transformed into a full-scale resort, welcoming more than 46,000 guests every year to enjoy the range of facilities, including restaurants, spa, adventure centre and playbarn.
Being recognised by VisitScotland in the form of a Scottish Thistle Award is always a great honour. This award reflects the commitment and hard work of all the team at Auchrannie, every one of whom play an important role in the delivery of exceptional guest service.
Kingsmuir House in Peebles in the Scottish Borders was crowned Most Hospitable B&B/ Guest House for the Lothian & Borders region. A previous national winner, the luxurious Victorian house offers guests a personal, homely and elegant experience. The two stunning suites retain many of the original features, with the interior taking inspiration from its Victorian features yet with a modern twist.
This is such a pleasure and privilege for Kingsmuir House to be acknowledged by The Scottish Thistle Awards 2019/20. We were delighted when Kingsmuir House was selected as the winner for Lothian & Borders regional finals. This an exceptional achievement making me so proud of the quality, attention to detail and the continued customer service we provide to all of our guests has been recognised once again.
The Dunstane Houses in Edinburgh was named winner of the Fishers Best Hotel Experience award for Lothian & Borders. The luxury boutique hotel offering 16 bedrooms in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh is family-run and aims to bring a breath of fresh Orkney air to the heart of Edinburgh. They were commended by judges for their emphasis on putting staff at the heart of the business and working collaboratively to deliver guest experiences.
We are delighted to have been recognised for our commitment to the hotel experience at The Dunstane Houses. Over the last 24 months we have invested much in ensuring care and attention is paid to every guest to make sure their experience is unique. From initial enquiry through to after-stay feedback, every step of the journey is carefully co-ordinated to be effortless. We are so pleased we have achieved this.
Northlands B&B in Pitlochry was crowned regional winner of the Most Hospitable B&B/ Guest House award for the Central, Fife & Tayside region. Opened in 2013, the B&B offers four star gold luxury accommodation in an elegant Victorian villa with 21st-century comfort. Owner Pauline Duncan shares what one guest called her “gift of hospitality” and true passion for her local area and beyond, through a memorable welcome, extensive local area knowledge, highly thoughtful touches to enhance room comforts and guest stays; delicious locally sourced Scottish produce and home-baking, local business partnerships and a unique approach to engaging with all guests.
Winning this award is the biggest thank you that Northlands could receive: for me, my family, committed to helping me deliver an outstanding guest experience; to my customers, who remain at the heart of my business and whose feedback drives our continued success, and our tourism community in Pitlochry and Perthshire.
The Old Manse of Blair located in the stunning Cairngorm National Park offers a rural escape for those in need of a fresh-air vacation. Built in 1828 and combining traditional elegance with modern luxury, it was named Fishers Best Hotel Experience at the Central, Fife & Tayside Regional Final. Judges praised the hotel for offering personal touches to guests and working in collaboration with the local community.
This is a great achievement and wonderful recognition for the entire team, for all the effort that they have put into delivering an outstanding guest experience at The Old Manse of Blair.
These businesses will be joined by the winners of the Best Hotel Experience and Most Hospitable B&B/ Guest House at the Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards (Fife Arms Hotel, Braemar, and Lys-Na-Greyne, Aboyne) and the winners at the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards (Kingsmill Hotel, Inverness, and Glenegedale House, Isle of Islay) at the National Final in March to find out who will take home the coveted national award.
