The Marine and Outdoor Tourism Restart Fund is now closed for applications.
Our assessors have been meeting for the last three weeks and have assessed all 461 applications received. While some assessments are pending further information being supplied, we've been able to approve more than 300 applications to date. These businesses will be notified shortly.
It is necessary to complete all assessments and appeals before we can finalise a funding offer to individual businesses. We appreciate your patience while we complete this process. Businesses who have been rejected do have a right to appeal and an appeals panel is meeting daily to consider more complex cases. Where this fund is unable to assist, businesses are being signposted to alternative avenues for support.
If you have any queries about the fund or your application please contact Marine&OutdoorFundEnquiries@visitscotland.com.
About the fund
The £4 million fund is delivered by VisitScotland on behalf of the Scottish Government and has been developed with Wild Scotland and Sail Scotland.
The fund was aimed at responsible tourism operators who provide a sustainable outdoor related activity to visitors on land and in the marine environment. This encompassed a broad span of activity types from wildlife watching to charter, day boat trips, sailing holidays, bushcraft and survival and activities such as canoeing and mountaineering.
Due to the complexity and breadth of businesses within the sector, a two-strand approach to grant funding was necessary to meet the needs of the sector. Businesses could only apply to one strand. The two strands were:
- Marine and boating tourism operators
- Outdoor wildlife, adventure and activity sector tourism businesses
The grants will be paid over a range of award amounts up to a maximum of £15,000 per company and will be limited to one application per company.
There is a fixed amount of funding available so the final amount awarded to a successful applicant will be determined once all applications are received and vetted, and will be dependent on the number of successful applications to this fund.
