Channel 4 collaborates with VisitScotland on Where to Next? episode

A pair of British stand-up comedians battle to be the “best tourist” in the South of Scotland in a new episode of Channel 4’s social branded entertainment series, Where to Next?, in collaboration with VisitScotland.

The paid for collaboration is part of the national tourism and events organisation’s new marketing storytelling push to target UK visitors, and the episode has gone live on Channel 4’s YouTube channel.

Where to Next?, produced by Strong Watch Studios, sees two comedians challenge each other, guided by travel tips from the public. These comedians are:

  • John Tothill (whose Edinburgh Fringe show, This Must Be Heaven, was nominated for Best Comedy Show 2025 at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards)
  • Fatiha El-Ghorri (who has appeared on Taskmaster and Pointless Celebrities, among others)

Both begin in Glasgow, where they get tips from the public of what to see and do in Scotland, before heading south through Ayrshire to Dumfries and Galloway, taking in some locations found in the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere.

They take part in challenges at each destination, from an aromatherapy class and Highland cow grooming -which Fatiha calls “the best experience of my life”- to seafood creations and ghostly storytelling.

Alongside the full episode on YouTube, four short-form videos have been released on Channel 4’s Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts. This social branded entertainment will celebrate Scotland’s natural beauty, rich culture, and history, in a uniquely Channel 4 way.

VisitScotland has created an itinerary on its website to accompany the release of the episode, to help inspired-viewers plan a four-day trip along the west coast and south of Scotland.

Destinations which feature in the Where to Next? episode include:

  • Sorores Aromatherapy in Dunlop, East Ayrshire, where the pair go head-to-head in a bath bomb making session
  • Kitchen Coos & Ewes, near Newton Stewart, for Highland cow grooming, where John is crowned a "coo whisperer extraordinaire" and Fatiha calls it "the best experience of my life"
  • Wigtown, Scotland’s national book town, where they find out what it’s like to stay in a book shop, which John calls "a perfect end to a perfect day"
  • Crichton Memorial Church where the pair’s ghost story telling are judged by Mostly Ghostly Tours
  • Caerlaverock Castle, which Fatiha describes as "possibly the coolest castle" in Scotland

Social storytelling and content creation are key components of our marketing strategy.

We know visitors are influenced by travel inspiring video content, and YouTube is the biggest streaming platform in the world, so Where to Next? was the perfect fit to show some of the best of Scotland through the eyes of two engaging visitors.

Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway have so much to offer visitors all year round and John and Fatiha’s entertaining journey gives viewers just a taste of what they can experience.

To enhance the episode and provide further inspiration, we have put together a complementary itinerary featuring the locations shown and more, so viewers can feed their wellbeing by creating their own memorable visit and spread the tourism benefits across the region.

Jill Walker, Director of Marketing, VisitScotland

There’s no better way to experience a country than through the fresh perspective of two first-time visitors, especially when they’re comedians.

Where to Next? is filled with warm conversations, funny interactions, and stunning scenery.

It has been fantastic to work with Strong Watch Studios, VisitScotland, and Carat Edinburgh on this collaboration.

Thomas Pullen, Digital Commissioning Executive, Channel 4

We love travelogues and we love Scotland, so this was a dream production for us.

Seeing the talent experience new and unfamiliar areas of a place you thought you knew was inspiring.

Thanks to VisitScotland and Channel 4 for being such a great bunch to work with.

Ben Powell-Jones, Co-Founder, Strong Watch Studios

We had such great fun with Fatiha and John when they came to visit Kitchen Coos & Ewes; they were both so easy to get on with.

We get 8,000 visitors who come to see our coos every year, and like John and Fatiha they are all lovely people.

It's not unusual for some of our visitors to get a bit dewy eyed when they meet our coos, so we could tell right away that Fatiha was loving the experience.

We also found out that John has hidden talents.

Not everyone has the legendary coo whispering gene, so it was such a joy to discover that John has it imprinted in his DNA.

Neale McQuistin, Co-Owner, Kitchen Coos & Ewes

I loved the experience of filming with the comedians and crew.

I couldn’t believe how much equipment and how many people could fit in my little studio shop.

Both Fatiha and John were stars, and Fatiha was a natural when it came to creating a bath bomb.

I’ve been building my small business for the last three years and visitors come from across Ayrshire and Renfrewshire to buy my handmade soaps, candles, and bath time products.

My candle-making Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day workshops are filling up, and I’m looking forward to welcoming lots of new customers in 2026.
