Revived connectivity for the community

It’s been a year this week since the celebrations of the reopening of the railway line at Levenmouth in Fife.

The £116 million rail link – which connected Leven and Cameron Bridge to the Fife Circle – now serves the people who live in and around the area providing revived connectivity for the community.

Since the reopening, Fife Council has reported an increase in visitor numbers to visitor attractions and golf clubs throughout the area as a direct result of the rail link, and it hopes to capitalise on that further this summer and going forward.

Prior to the rail opening, Welcome to Fife and the Levenmouth Local Tourism Association (LLTA), in partnership with VisitScotland, created a Levenmouth Tourism Action Plan (LTAP) to make the most of this milestone for the area, and encourage people to explore what Fife and Levenmouth have to offer.

The opening of the Levenmouth rail line was a significant day for Fife. It marked another step in the regeneration of the area and its potential for tourism growth and continues to support the delivery of the Levenmouth Tourism Action Plan.

Major investments such as the railway contribute to the profile, confidence and ongoing development of the region as a visitor destination.

We know that our scenery and landscape are key reasons why people come to Scotland. Levenmouth is well positioned to take advantage of this and it’s heartening to hear that the surrounding golf clubs and visitor attractions have already benefited from the opening of the rail line.

Combine this with the rest of Fife’s coastal scenery, active travel routes such as the Fife Pilgrim Way, and great food and drink, and there is so much more that can help transform the wider region in the years to come.

A catalyst for tourism growth

The rail link has been a catalyst for tourism in the area, creating opportunities in terms of social benefits and attracting growth and inward investment.

Some of the local attractions which are being developed include Silverburn Park with the renovation of the Flax Mill, developments at the Fife Heritage Railway, the reopening of Methil Heritage Centre and a new exhibition “The Wonder Store” and the creation of the new recreation park, Leven River Park which will create a green corridor alongside the railway line.

In addition, ahead of the railway opening, Levenmouth Tourism Association developed a series of self-guided walking trails to encourage visitors to see more of the area and to hear the rich stories of the people who live and work in the Levenmouth area. You can find these on the Welcome to Levenmouth website.

Leven adds another railway station on the Fife Coastal Path and enables more people to access the route using sustainable transport.

Hear from Fife Council about how Levenmouth has been a catalyst for tourism and the opportunities for the area as a result of this significant milestone.
