Among the elite competitors is Scotland’s own Robert MacIntyre, returning to defend his title in front of a passionate home crowd.

  • Driving Economic Growth

The Genesis Scottish Open is a Rolex Series tournament that is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR. At the start of the week, a new analysis by MKA Economics has found that it delivered a net economic impact of £19.2 million to the Scottish economy in 2024, supporting 234 jobs:

    • 76,024 spectators attended the tournament over four days in 2024
    • £10.8 million of the total impact came from visitor spending
    • the East Lothian economy alone benefited by £7.8 million, supporting 97 jobs - a 32% increase compared to 2019.
  • Celebrating East Lothian’s natural beauty

As part of this year’s event, local tour guide and photographer Bryan Millar Walker takes fans on a visual journey through East Lothian’s stunning coastline.

From championship links courses to nature reserves, fine dining, and historic landmarks, Bryan’s work highlights the region’s diverse and authentic visitor experiences.

  • Long-term commitment from Genesis

On Wednesday (9 July), the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR announced a multi-year extension with Genesis as title partner through 2030.

This long-term investment reinforces Genesis’ commitment to Scotland’s national open and supports the continued development of the event as a world-class sporting event.

  • Beyond the course

Off the course, the Fan Zone will be buzzing across the four days with the return of Fringe by the Tee, a collaboration with the local Fringe by the Sea festival. This year’s entertainment includes a vibrant mix of music, comedy and family fun.

Among the highlights will be KT Tunstall, the Grammy-nominated, Brit Award-winning artist, brings her electrifying live show to the event on Saturday (12 July).

  • Supporting place and destination development

The Genesis Scottish Open exemplifies our strategic priority place and destination development. It showcase East Lothian as a world-class destination that blends elite sport with authentic local experiences.

Rob Dickson, Director of Industry and Events

The Genesis Scottish Open is one of the centrepieces of Scotland’s sporting calendar and this report shows the very real benefits to come from staging such a significant international event.

It is incredible that nearly 20,000 visitors headed to North Berwick every day for last year’s tournament and I wish the competitors, organisers and the event’s army of volunteers well ahead of what I’m sure will be an equally successful tournament this week.

Business Minister Richard Lochhead

The Genesis Scottish Open has grown to become one of the pre-eminent tournaments in global golf, attracting an incredibly strong field of the world’s best players, as well as an extensive spectator entertainment programme. Spectator numbers are increasing year-on-year, and this new study shows that this is having a tangible economic benefit to both the local and national economy. With our partners at VisitScotland, Scottish Government, Genesis and the PGA TOUR, we are focused on increasing the positive economic and broader societal impact of the Rolex Series tournament once again this year.
