The opportunity

We are inviting events and festivals to partner with the Year of Coasts and Waters 20/21 and Year of Stories 2022.

If your event or festival aligns well with either theme, join the Partner Events Programme and benefit from the Themed Years promotional platform for FREE, whilst helping to promote Scotland in partnership.

The Year of Coasts and Waters 20/21 Partner Events Programme is open to events taking place up to and including 31 December 2021.

The Year of Stories 2022 Partner Events Programme is open to events taking place between 1 January and 31 December 2022.

    This FREE opportunity will align your event with the year and benefit from associated promotional activity.

  • Listing on VisitScotland.com

    You’ll benefit from an event listing on VisitScotland.com, our global website which attracts over 22 million visitors per year.

Is your event eligible?

To join the Partner Events Programme your event or festival must:

  • be public-facing;
  • appeal to locals and visitors alike;
  • take place in Scotland during 2021 (Year of Coasts and Waters) or 2022 (Year of Stories);
  • have confirmed dates;
  • be relevant to the coasts and waters or stories themes;
  • celebrate at least one of the programme strands (Year of Coasts and Waters: our natural environment and wildlife; our historic environment and cultural heritage; activities and adventure; food and drink; Year of Stories: Iconic Stories & Storytellers; New Stories; Scotland’s People & Places; Local Tales & Legends; Inspired by Nature);
  • ensure all appropriate licences and permissions are in place; follow appropriate best practice with regards to sustainability

Please note, we are not able to list certain types of events such as: specialist classes; workshops or courses that last more than one day; industry conferences; guided tours; and permanent exhibitions. For a full list please visit VisitScotland.com submit an event.

For tourism businesses with aligned activity or product that is not an event or festival, the Partner Events Programme is not for you, but please register for a VisitScotland.com business listing or update your existing listing to reflect your Themed Years aligned product.

If you are a tour operator, then please add the Year of Stories 2022 category to your tour listings where you feel they align well with the year.

Please note festivals or events with multiple individual listings should only register their main festival, ensuring copy is provided that showcases your coasts and waters or stories relevant programme.

Confirmed Partner Events will be provided with the relevant toolkit to help them align their communications with the Year of Coasts and Waters 20/21 or Year of Stories 2022 campaign.
