A new chapter for the Highland landmark

The Inverness Castle Experience, operated by High Life Highland, has officially opened to the public, marking the start of a new chapter for the Highland landmark.

From 9 February 2026, the re-developed attraction will be officially open to visitors and residents, following a ribbon cutting ceremony with Scotland's Deputy First Minister, Kate Forbes.

A brand-new website for the attraction is now live, and tickets for both the Inverness Castle Experience and Afternoon Tea in the North Tower Bar are now available.

The new website shows the story of the site's re-development, from a former court and prison, to an interactive storytelling experience which brings the Highlands to life.

Hear from Chris Taylor, our Destination Development Director, Highlands and Islands about how this exciting new experience will support and sustain the local visitor economy...

Celebrating local talent, innovation and creativity, the experience draws on the skills of artists, craftspeople and storytellers from across the region. It’s been designed with accessibility, sustainability and community at its heart – a space for everyone to enjoy Highland hospitality and responsible, meaningful experiences.

The Saltire Bistro and Shop, situated between the Castle’s North and South towers, offers a taste of the Highlands – showcasing local produce which is inspired by the Highlands. The Saltire Bistro can be visited without purchasing an entry ticket to the Castle Experience.

The Inverness Castle Experience will be a game-changer for the region, positioning both the city and the Highlands as a key cultural and historical destination to Scots and visitors. I hope visitors of all ages and backgrounds will be able to enjoy this world-class attraction in the heart of Inverness.

We have been thrilled to have been involved in shaping the development of this dynamic and innovative new experience from the outset. It is imperative that Scotland is able to deliver world-class experiences, attractions and events to keep up with the ever-changing visitor demands.

Tourism is more than a holiday experience – it's the heartbeat of the Highland economy. A thriving visitor economy creates jobs, stimulates investment and sustains communities across the country, sparking a ripple effect that benefits a wider supply chain.

The Inverness Castle Experience project is part of the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal, a joint initiative supported by up to £315 million investment from the UK and Scottish governments, The Highland Council, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the University of the Highlands and Islands, aimed at stimulating sustainable regional economic growth.
