Information from Police Scotland

Police Scotland’s Prevention and Intervention Partnerships Team are sharing information and advice to make businesses aware of steps they can take to prevent motorbike crime.

Motorbike theft rates have dropped in recent years, however it remains important to stay vigilant and keep vehicles safe and secure – particularly in the Edinburgh area.

Crime prevention advice

Here are some crime prevention tips to use when thinking of securing machinery:

  • fit a combined alarm and immobilizer
  • ensure your vehicle has a tracker fitted
  • use chains and disc locks, and use solid anchor points when securing your motorebike with chains and locks
  • cover your motorbike and secure the cover to your security device
  • always activate your steering lock
  • don’t leave any possessions, such as helmets or luggage, on the motorcycle or in the luggage space or panniers
  • keep note of your vehicle identification number
  • use secure parking facilities, ideally well-lit and with CCTV, at your destination

Police Scotland also recommend using industry tested security products, such as Thatcham, Sold Secure and Secure by Design, when in the UK.
