The launch of Scotland’s Deposit Return Scheme will be delayed until at least October 2025.

Circular Economy Minister Lorna Slater announced the delay in the Scottish Parliament.

She said there had been consultation with key businesses, including producers, after the UK Government agreed a partial exemption to the Internal Market Act for the Scottish scheme. This meant that glass bottles would need to be excluded from the Scottish scheme.

Ms Slater said that she remained committed to introducing the Deposit Return Scheme, which was originally due to start in March this year.
