We're planning activity for World Tourism Day (Sunday 27 September) – to celebrate and share the voices of those who work in the tourism industry across Scotland – and we're looking for a little help from you.

We’re asking anyone who works in the sector to send us a video, up to 30 seconds long, of yourself talking to the camera (filmed in selfie style or by someone else) at your workplace/business answering the question: What does tourism mean to you?

For example, tourism could mean a connection with people from different countries and walks of life, being part of a community, or a fulfilling lifestyle rather than just a job.

As some food for thought, here’s what the UN says about World Tourism Day: The COVID-19 pandemic represents an opportunity to rethink the future of the tourism sector, including how it contributes to the sustainable development goals, through its social, cultural, political, and economic value. Tourism can eventually help us move beyond the pandemic, by bringing people together and promoting solidarity and trust – crucial ingredients in advancing the global cooperation so urgently needed at this time.

We're asking for submissions by 22 September. Email them to and these will be incorporated into a video for our social media and shared with online media outlets, using #OnlyInScotland and #WorldTourismDay
