Finding talent for Scottish tourism

A campaign has launched encouraging people to choose a career in Scotland’s valued tourism and hospitality industry. The campaign has been developed by Scottish Government in conjunction with the sector, and lead partner the Scottish Tourism Alliance and is supported by £100,000 funding.

The new campaign will address the current staffing crisis within Scotland’s tourism industry, a crisis caused by the impact of COVID-19 and the workforce shortage resulting from Brexit.

The aim of the campaign is twofold:

  1. To support your business in recruiting talent for the diverse range of positions which are currently available.
  2. To inspire young people aged 18 - 30 to play an important role in the recovery of Scotland’s valuable tourism and hospitality industry, by choosing a job within the sector.

This new campaign highlights the exciting and varied opportunities which tourism and hospitality offers and the variety of opportunities out there, to help businesses like yours secure the staff you need, now that the sector has reopened.

The campaign also showcases the unique benefits of working within Scotland’s tourism and hospitality sector, namely that careers in tourism give young people unrivalled scope to meet people, travel and that no two days are ever the same.

We’re supporting the campaign, which will run from 5 July to 15 August, alongside the Scottish Government, Scottish Tourism Alliance, Skills Development Scotland, Springboard, HIT Scotland, UKHospitality, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and South of Scotland Enterprise.

How can you get involved?

Share your vacancies

As part of the campaign we would ask that all tourism businesses in Scotland list your vacancies on the Careerscope jobs portal. The jobs will then be available to all Careerscope users and those with profiles will be matched to suitable advertisements on the jobs section.

And we’d encourage you, as far as possible, to list the roles as flexible and not requiring experience, to encourage applications from more young people.

Get sociable

As well as making sure your current vacancies are listed on the Careerscope portal, we’re calling on all partners and tourism and hospitality businesses to get involved by sharing the campaign on your own social channels with the hashtag #DoWhatYouLove.

And you can tag some of the partners in your posts or take a look at their pages and share their content:
