Connections to Scotland

The Scotland Visitor Survey 2015 identifies broad connections to Scotland, including ancestral links, amongst a sample of summer visitors to Scotland. To view the results, please see the Scotland Visitor Survey within the Visitor Research section. The Scotland Visitor Survey is taking place in 2015 and 2016.

 

Ancestral Tourism Research

In 2012, VisitScotland commissioned research to review the market potential of the ancestral tourism market and the needs of the ancestral tourism visitor. An audit of the existing ancestral tourism resources in Scotland was also carried out.

 

Available to download are documents which highlight the key results from this research and the audit.

An intelligence guide on Ancestral Tourism was published in 2013 by Tourism Intelligence Scotland (in association with Highlands & Islands Enterprise, Scottish Enterprise and VisitScotland)  The guide gives an overview of research, case studies and tips for businesses.
