The countdown has begun, and we’re less than a week away from the proposed reopening of the remainder of Scottish tourism – it’s going to be a tough and long recovery and I take my hat off to you all for remaining resilient after the worst crisis we’ve ever seen.

We know that reassuring visitors and communities is still crucial and this week I started a series of meetings with community representatives from tourism “hotspots” to look at the challenges being faced. One of the things that struck me was that no one wants to turn visitors away, so the warm Scottish welcome remains.

We’re also working to support the next piece of the tourism jigsaw – the business, sporting and cultural events sector – which has many challenges to overcome.

No matter what – the tourism and events industry will be resilient and will prove to be a great healer for people who have been stuck inside for months on end. So, six days and counting, welcome back to great Scottish hospitality.
