Year of Food and Drink 2010
Introduction - What is the Year of Food & Drink?
Homecoming Scotland 2009 was the first major
initiative funded by the Scottish Government encouraging all public
sector organisations to work together to help create awareness of
the fantastic experiences Scotland can offer to visitors and
residents alike.
Events and festivals were held throughout Scotland celebrating
the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth and encouraging
visitors from around the world to come and join in our
celebrations. As a result Homecoming delivered £53.7 million
additional tourism revenue to the country and a 10:1 return on
investment.
To build on this success the Scottish Government has now
launched the Homecoming Legacy years. These are 4 years where focus
will be given to different aspects of tourism throughout the
country to draw the visitor’s attention to the excellent quality
Scotland can offer and also encourage the industry to be proud of
what we have.
These 4 years will then culminate in another Homecoming
Celebration where we will invite the world to join us in
celebrating the Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games in 2014.
The themes for the legacy years are:
- Food & Drink
- Active Scotland
- Creative Scotland
- Natural Scotland.
This Year of Food and Drink is all about celebrating
the fantastic produce that we have and ensure visitors are aware of
this excellent offering that they can experience on a trip to
Scotland. To this end both VisitScotland and EventScotland will be
featuring the theme throughout their
activity such as marketing and PR and the funding of events
respectively.
The Year of Food & Drink runs from May 2010- May 2011.
