Scottish Domestic Tourism Data Browsers

Online Data Browser: Great Britain Resident Domestic Overnight Trips for Scotland and GB (Source: GBTS) -

The GBTS Online Browser is simple to use, interactive tool which allows you to analyse data for each of the full calendar years of the current GBTS survey. With figures going back to 2006, you can choose the measure you're interested in (trips, nights or spend), as well as the geographic level (GB, Scotland, or Scottish regions).

Important note: Between 2006 and 2010, the UK tourism survey collected data from UK residents about trips within the UK. From 2011 onwards, this changed to consider trips taken by GB residents within Great Britain, i.e. excluding trips taken by Northern Irish residents and trips to Northern Ireland. The browser contains data about trips taken by residents of Great Britain only. This means that results are consistent over time. However, it also means that the results shown for Scotland and regions are slightly different than those presented elsewhere on our website for the years 2006 to 2010, which consider trips taken by all UK residents.

Online Data Browser: Great Britain Tourism Day Visits (Source: GBDVS)

The GB Day Visits Survey data is provided through a similar interactive GBDVS online browser.

The browser allows analysis of the volume and value of Scottish and GB based day visitor data by:

  • All tourism day trips (non-regular activities, outside the place of residence).
  • All 3+ hour leisure trips (All tourism day trips and also trips which lasted at least three hours, but did not fulfil the criteria to be classified as tourism trips, because they were either activities undertaken regularly by the respondent, or because they happened in the respondent's place of residence).
