Caravan and Camping

A report into the impact of the holiday-park sector on the Scottish economy

The Scottish Caravan and Camping Forum (SCCF) published a report on the value to the Scottish economy of holiday caravan and camping parks. The Report is the outcome of a comprehensive survey of park-owners and visitors carried out in 2014 by an independent research company.

Such a survey has not been undertaken before and the research has provided robust and independently verified data which establishes the sector’s significance within the tourism industry and its importance to rural areas. The Report details spend by visitors and expenditure by park-owners in operating costs.

A link to the report can be accessed through the Scottish Tourism Alliance website

Taking part in the Scottish Accommodation Occupancy Study

The value of the data from the SAOS is very much dependent on the participation of accommodation businesses in providing their occupancy data, and we would like more businesses to take part. In return for providing their data in easy to use formats, participants get early access to monthly data, individual occupancy analysis and access to an online results portal.

If you are a Scottish accommodation business and would like to participate in the survey, please contact: info@moffatcentre.com.

The awareness of the Holiday Park Sector amongst Local Authorities

The holiday park sector is recognised by stakeholders as an important contributor to the visitor economy. Parks also provide a wide range of social and environmental benefits to the local community.

In September/October 2013 a short survey was conducted on behalf of the Scottish Government and British Homes and Holiday Parks Association to establish awareness of the economic benefits of Scotland’s holiday parks amongst Local Authorities.
