Industry Barometer

The Tourism Barometer is a regular tracking study, which reports on business performance, assessing past and present trends within the industry, future prospects and the general market performance across Scotland. The study is carried out with a panel of 400 tourism businesses spread across all areas of Scotland. All types of businesses participate including:

  • accommodation
  • attractions
  • retail
  • tours
  • transport
  • entertainment/event providers

The survey is conducted 3 times per year:

Survey Schedule Fieldwork Performance Period Covered
1st Wave May/Jun Season to date (including Easter) and look ahead to main summer season
2nd Wave Sept/Oct Season to date (including summer) and look ahead to autumn/winter season
3rd Wave Jan/Feb Season to date (including Christmas and New Year) and look ahead to spring season
