Adventure Tourism and a Risk Averse Society This months issue of ‘Tomorrows World’ from the scenario planning team at VisitScotland on the subject of ‘adventure tourism and a risk averse society’. In the research briefing ‘From Bugging to Sphereing: The Prospects for Scotland’s Adventure Tourism Product’ (Volume 3 Issue 1) two scenarios have been constructed which paint contrasting pictures: "Scotland: The Outdoor Centre of Excellence" sees market growth rising to £848 million based upon the provision of world class sporting events and facilities, continued access and the social cachet of the destination. Whereas, "the Nanny State" scenario sees Scotland lose market share to Eastern Europe due to overregulation and lack of innovation.
