Scenario Planning

Climate Change and Scottish Tourism

Scotland’s dramatic landscapes and fantastic scenery are often quoted as one of the main reasons to visit Scotland, but with tourism to Scotland forecast to grow by 50% over the next ten years, can the destination sustain that growth? This research briefing sets out to understand how climatic change could hinder or facilitate that growth, whether this is the impact of CO2 emissions and aviation or a changing biodiversity system.

This important research clarifies the myths and facts about climate change, enabling decision makers to understand the strategic implications and thus focus actions on sustainability and green tourism.

In particular, we focus on what climatic change means for VisitScotland, the national tourism organisation for Scotland.
