Aims The Countryside Alliance was formed in 1997 by an amalgamation of organisations representing rural business and country sports interests, and the Countryside Movement, a body formed to educate the public on rural issues.

The Scottish Countryside Alliance was formed from the Countryside Alliance in October 1998 to ensure that the organisation reflected the specific conditions and circumstances in Scotland. It currently has over 10,000 full and affiliate members representing the whole diversity of rural live in Scotland.

We have an especially strong presence among low-income rural workers and small farmers. Our membership contains the kind of people who have the most to gain, and lose, from the countryside and those most in touch with what is really happening in rural communities. The Scottish Countryside Alliance will campaign on rural issues that are important and relevant to people in town and country. We plan to work closely with other countryside organisations. At the core of the Alliance''s work is our unwavering dedication to the protection of country sports and the rural way of life.
