National Nature Reserve Highlighted in Tourism Drive
St Abb’s Head National Nature Reserve is gaining a wider profile
this summer thanks to a joint marketing push from VisitScotland and
Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH).
The two organisations have joined forces to
raise the profile of Scotland’s National Nature Reserves (NNRs), as
part of the official tourism organisation’s £2 million ‘Perfect
Day’ marketing drive.
A stunning image of St Abb’s Head NNR will
adorn bill boards and bus stops the length and breadth of the
country promoting the fantastic opportunities for bird watching in
the region for the next few months, under the strap line, “Forget
your laptop and enjoy every single tweet. Perfect”.
From Inverness to Selkirk, and from Fort
William across to Aberdeen, the poster campaign is aimed at
highlighting the beauty, importance and accessibility of our
country’s National Nature Reserves, and will contribute to an
expected £25 million of additional income to Scotland’s economy
between March and August this year.
VisitScotland’s regional director, Sandi
Hellowell, explains:
“Focusing in particular on young families and
couples, this campaign encourages visitors to enjoy NNR’s and the
wider natural environment, and highlights all the work being done
by Scottish Natural Heritage and their partners in looking after
these unique natural environments. Our posters aim to convey that
visitors are very welcome on NNR’s and in the summer in particular,
people can reap the physical and emotional benefits of enjoying
these special places.
Dougie Pollok, Campaigns Manager for Scottish
Natural Heritage, said;
"St Abb's Head NNR is managed by one of our
partner organisations, The National Trust for Scotland, and is a
great place to watch seabirds swooping and soaring against the
dramatic backdrop of the Berwickshire coastline. During summer the
rocky grassland is dotted with colourful flowers and fast moving
butterflies.”
“NNR’s are some of the
best places for everyone to enjoy the magic and
beauty of Scotland's nature and we are delighted to partner
with VisitScotland in this promotion that will highlight Scotland’s
NNR’s to millions of potential visitors.”
