Scotland's Most Important Industry

Tourism is Scotland's most important industry, injecting over £4 billion annually into the Scottish economy.

Tourism employs 200,000 people in Scotland in 20,000 diverse businesses. Tourism supports around 9 per cent of employment in Scotland (13 per cent in the Highlands).

Scotland's key target markets, within the UK, are Scotland, the North of England and the South of England.

Scotland's key target markets, outwith the UK, are the United States of America, Germany and France. European countries in total account for almost half of overseas trips to Scotland.
