Local tourism awards scheme announced as finalists in Scottish Event Awards 2010

 

The Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards (HITA) have been announced as finalists in the Best Awards Scheme category of the Scottish Event Awards 2010.

 

HITA chairwoman, Elizabeth Mackintosh said; "We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for Best Awards Scheme.  This recognition is a real boost to the whole team who work on HITA and put so much time and passion into the event.  This exciting news will certainly help to raise the profile of HITA further and encourage tourism businesses throughout the Highlands and Islands to enter HITA 2010."

 

Now in their fifth year, HITA is an industry led event guided by tourism leaders from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland which recognises and rewards excellence in all sectors of the region's tourism industry. 

 

There are 12 categories for HITA 2010 which are Best Use of Social Media Award sponsored by 4TM, Best Visitor Experience Award sponsored by Chivas, Community Tourism Initiative Award sponsored by Highland Council, Customer Care Award sponsored by VisitScotland, Developing People Award sponsored by Babcock, Highland Ambassador of the Year, Highland Dining Out Experience Award sponsored by Scottish Provincial Press, Young Ambassador of the Year Award sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland, Leadership Award sponsored by Inverness College & the University of the Highlands and Islands, Marketing Initiative Award sponsored by British Waterways and The Green Award sponsored by Kennan Recycling.

 

HITA are in the running for Best Awards Scheme along with the John Logie Baird Awards: Nurturing Innovation and the Military and Civilian Health Partnership Awards 2009. 

 

The winner will be announced on Thursday 9th September in Glasgow.
