Adventure Summit comes to Scotland

VisitScotland in partnership with the Cairngorms National Park is delighted to host the 7th Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS), the annual global gathering of adventure tourism professionals in Aviemore in October 2010. Previous summits have been held in the United States, Norway, Brazil and Canada (2007 in British Columbia, 2009 in Quebec)

Up to 600 delegates representing nearly 50 countries worldwide are anticipated to attend the summit at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort. Delegates will include outbound and inbound tour operators, destination management organisations, wholesalers, specialty travel agents, accommodation and activity providers with an interest in Adventure Tourism.

The four day conference will be preceded by 12 separate Pre-Summit Adventures across Scotland and over the weekend of 2-3rd October. These adventure trips, organised by VisitScotland in partnership with leading businesses in Scotland’s adventure travel industry, provide the perfect opportunity to showcase our world class adventure resources and product in addition to our breathtaking landscapes, warm hospitality and unique culture. The Pre-Summit Adventures will cover the full spectrum of Adventure travel from sea-kayaking to mountain biking and from wildlife watching to hiking and canoeing. Opportunities exist for tourism businesses in Scotland to participate in the Pre-Summit Adventures. To find out more, please contact Lindsay Symington, Trade Marketing Executive

VisitScotland will host the opening night of the conference, Monday 4th October with a ‘Shindig’ for delegates. There are currently a number of sponsorship opportunities available to the Scottish trade for this event which would provide your business with the opportunity to promote your brand to 600 adventure tourism enthusiasts from around the world - if you would like to find out more about these opportunities please contact Neil Hunter, Business Development Manager.

Monday 4th October is “A Day of Adventure” which is being organised by Aviemore and the Cairngorms. All delegates attending the conference are allowed to participate in one of the 25 activities being offered which range from Whisky tours to sea kayaking in search of dolphins.

Marketplace, a buyer and supplier workshop takes place on Tuesday 5th October preceded by a Meet the Press breakfast meeting. This event takes the form of 17 minute meetings between buyers and suppliers, a chance for suppliers to demonstrate their product and potentially gain new business through the international buyer network. There are limited places available for suppliers (accommodation providers, inbound tour operators or activity providers specializing in adventure travel) who are interested in developing their adventure tourism products. Last year’s Marketplace held in Quebec sold out in record time so book early to avoid disappointment. Wednesday 6th & Thursday 7th October see two full days of seminars and networking events. Please visit the ATTA website for further information and registration. For more information see www.adventuretravelworldsummit.com -and book by 7th May to gain a special early bird discount.
