VisitScotland Quality Assurance CD will help businesses achieve higher standards

A free CD-Rom will soon be available from VisitScotland to help tourism businesses in their efforts to achieve Quality Assurance awards. The CD contains information on the different quality assurance schemes that are currently available, and details the work of the Quality and Standards department. The CD also contains details of the latest training and development opportunities.

Quality development manager Colin Houston thinks that the CD will go a long way to filling a gap in the current quality assurance process.

He said "In the past, an operator who was striving to achieve a Quality Assurance award had their application acknowledged then didn't hear from us until the quality advisor visited.

"This CD aims to bridge that gap and tell applicants about the benefits of Quality Assurance, the process, what schemes are out there and how they can become involved."

Best practice advice
The CD does much more than simply give advice. It is packed with information on business development and best practice. In fact, there is something for everyone, as Colin Houston points out.

He said: "New applicants, or prospective purchasers, will find everything they need to understand the QA procedure, while those who are already involved will have access to a wealth of information for their own benefit. But we hope they will also use it for the likes of staff induction and training."

Another CD-Rom will also  be available soon entitled 'Surprise and Delight. Best Ideas for Tourism Businesses'.

It's the culmination of extensive VisitScotland research that asked consumers what were the things that made their stay in accommodation, and trips to visitor attractions, unforgettable.
