Sustainable Tourism
Our Sustainable Tourism
Resource Centre has been created specifically to support
tourism businesses by providing information on sustainable business
practices and promoting how these practices can benefit
businesses.
Our Vision
VisitScotland aspires to make Scotland the most economically,
environmentally and socially sustainable destination in Europe. As
an organisation, we aim to be recognised as a leader in sustainable
tourism development, not just within Scotland but at a European and
World level.
We aim to make VisitScotland a sustainable national tourism
organisation, recognised for our efforts to reduce the
environmental impact, and maximise the economic and social
benefits, from our own operations.
VisitScotland's definition of sustainable
tourism:
Sustainable tourism is tourism committed to generating a low
impact on the surrounding environment and community by acting
responsibly while generating income and employment for the local
economy and aiding social cohesion. Sustainable tourism aims to
ensure that economic development as a result of tourism is a
positive experience for everyone involved; local community, tourism
businesses and visitors.
