Delivering for Scotland

At VisitScotland we believe that tourism is leading economic transformation across Scotland. It creates jobs, sustains communities and provides a critical shop window for business activity across all sectors.

  • Spending by visitors to Scotland generates approximately £11 billion of economic activity (2015) in the wider Scottish supply chain. This contributes around £6 billion to Scottish GDP (in basic prices) and represents about 5% of total Scottish GDP. (Source: Scottish Government – Tourism Core Brief Jan 2017)
  • There are 14,000 tourism related businesses (8% of all Scottish businesses) supporting around 217,000 jobs (8.5% of all Scottish employment) in Scotland. (Source: Scottish Government – Growth Sector Database 2016)
  • For every £1 VisitScotland spends we bring in £8 of net economic impact.

VisitScotland works in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver on a local, national and international stage, creating economic benefit in every corner of Scotland.

We do this by promoting Scotland as a place to visit and invest in and by supporting a wide ranging programme of events, marketing and partnership projects.
