Tourism Prospectus

Investing for Growth

The Scottish Executive, VisitScotland and tourism industry partners have outlined an ambition to grow the value of tourism in Scotland by 50% within ten years. The strategic framework for this has been set in the recent Scottish Executive publication, The Next Decade, A Tourism Framework For Change (TFFC).

The aim of the Tourism Prospectus document is to establish the potential for growth more clearly in financial terms and to outline opportunities for investment - of imagination, time and effort as well as money - to achieve this.

Stimulating Growth - The Five Drivers

We consider Scotland's tourism industry - Scottish Tourism plc - as a business. As with most business models there are two main ways to stimulate growth:

  • greater productivity
  • increased investment for expansion

Scottish Tourism plc is no different and needs a mix of ''drivers' to influence change:

The Five Drivers
24 hours/7 days/52 weeks Driver One – Capacity Utilisation
Sell! Driver Two – Cross-selling
Total Quality Driver Three – Market Positioning
Shout Louder! Driver Four – Incremental Marketing
Invest Driver Five – Capital Investment
